Our School Governors

Welcome to the Governors' Section of Our Website

The Governors at our school play an active role in the strategic direction of the school. They work in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure our children receive the very best education. The Governing Body has a legal responsibility to conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at the school.

What the Governing Body Does
The Governing Body plays a critical role within the school. Whilst the Headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day running of the school, it is up to the Governors to take on responsibility for the strategic, or long-term, direction of the school. This includes many varied tasks, from budgeting to monitoring standards. The Governing Body is made up of volunteers drawn from the "stakeholders" of the school. The constitution of the Governing Body is set by the Scheme of Delegation for the school, and requires there to be seven Foundation Governors, two Parent Governors, and one Staff Governor. Additional governors (Co-opted Governors) can also form part of the Governing Body if they have useful skills and experience. Each has an equal say in matters regarding the school.

Foundation Governors are required to uphold the Christian ethos of the school, and are nominated by the Governing Body. Parent Governors are elected by the school's parent community. Staff Governors are elected by the school's staff community. Co-opted Governors, as with Foundation Governors, are nominated by the Governing Body.

The Governing Body welcomes interest in becoming a Governor at Holyport and any Governor vacancies will be advertised on this page. If you would like to discuss a vacancy, or becoming a Holyport Governor in general, please contact the Clerk using the contact details below.

All the Governors meet once a term at a Full Governing Body Meeting and each Governor serves on the various committees that also meet termly. The main committees are Finance, Premises and Pay, which looks after buildings, staff pay and finance, Standards and Staffing committee, looking after curriculum, attainment and quality of teaching, and Admissions and Marketing committee, which looks after our admissions into school and oversees marketing activity. The minutes of meetings are available through the School Office. (Please note that occasionally some parts of the meetings are confidential, when we discuss individual staff or pupil matters, for instance, and as such are not available.)

Governors also attend school and school events regularly, as well as training events, to help improve their skills.

Mr Paul Mew is the Chair of the Governing Body at our school and is supported by the Chairs of the committees. Any Governor queries should be addressed to The Governors, c/o Clerk to the Governing Body, at the school’s address:
