Jesus said:

‘I have come that you may have life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10). He calls us to a full life in mind, body, heart and spirit. Therefore, at Holyport we believe the purpose of education is to nurture and enable every child to thrive and to be the person they are fully capable of being and ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

Our curriculum is rooted in the vision of ‘life in all its fullness’ and is designed to equip children to have BROAD and MEMORABLE experiences and be curious, confident independent and ENTHUSTIASTIC learners.  

Also, our curriculum and wider curriculum enrichment (through themed weeks and annual events) promotes being ACTIVE, HEALTHY and RESPONSIBLE and caring citizens in their community. It takes into account the children’s existing knowledge and prior learning, provides exciting learning experiences and allows the children to build resilience, develop communication skills, and know their CONTRIBUTION WILL BE RECOGNISED.

As children leave Holyport CE Primary School, they do so with the knowledge that they belonged to a tightly knit, caring community where they developed confidence as well as knowledge and skills to enable them to make effective decisions, be self-reflective, make meaningful connections with others and we want every child to be ready to take on the next steps in their journey to adulthood with a love of learning.

We recognise that the curriculum encompasses everything children experience at school. Whilst our curriculum promotes high standards and aims to accelerate academic progress, it is also about recognising and ensuring each child FEELS VALUED AND RESPECTED as a unique individual. We celebrate and value the differences each member of our school brings to our community, uncovering and nurturing the talents within each child, using growth mind-sets and essential skills for life. We promote these through our ‘Learning Working Heads’ and our PHSE programme. Links with our local community are also an essential part of our curriculum as we participate in; traditional and local events, we welcome experts in their field, members of our wider community into school to work collaboratively to develop our children’s confidence so enabling them to learn new skills and participate in a variety of events throughout the academic year.

Therefore we have these succinct aims:

• Provide an inspiring, broad and balanced education for all pupils that is coherently planned and sequenced towards the cumulative acquisition of knowledge and skills for future learning and employment.
• Enable pupils to develop knowledge, understand concepts and acquire skills, and the ability to choose and apply these in relevant situations.
• Support pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and promote fundamental British values. (see our SMSC curriculum page) 
• Support pupils’ physical development, including building responsibility for their own health, and enable them to be active. 
• Promote our 5 Learning Working Heads to build their character and positive attitude towards learning. (see behaviour policy) 
• Ensure equal access to learning for all pupils, with high expectations for every pupil and appropriate levels of challenge and support. ( see accessibility policy) 
• For all pupils to make the best possible progress and to achieve the highest possible attainment.
• Equip pupils with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

The Children’s Learning

Years 1 to 6  follow the National Curriculum that was launched in September 2014. Foundation Stage continue to follow the Foundation Stage Profile and Early Learning Goals. 

We provide additional information on our Curriculum during our annual Curriculum Meetings and the Curriculum Newsletters that we send home each short term.

We hope that they enable you to share in the excitement and breadth of the curriculum with your children. The link below details the 2014 National Curriculum and the overviews for each year group, to share how we plan to cover the curriculum over the Key Stages. Please be aware that there may be changes to these are we introduce new curriculum and support materials over this year. 

At Holyport, we feel the best way to deliver the National Curriculum objectives for many subjects is through a creative topic approach that engages and excites the children.  The school  reviewed its curriculum last year with this aim in mind. Our new curriculum for History, Geography, Art, DT and PSHE now use KAPOW as a basis.  For Science we use 'Developing Experts' to help the children learn the practical and enquiry based skills as much as improving their knowledge and understanding.
