Year 4 – Dahl and King Smith

Welcome to Year 4

Meet our team

Dahl Class - Mrs Gresswell and Mrs Madden

King-Smith Class - Ms Field

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Real-Lage and Mrs Benham

A warm welcome to Mrs Benham who will be working in Year 4 as of Monday.

She is well-known to all the children and staff!

We are well underway with our Road Trip USA topic now. If you have any photographs of any US landmarks or indeed yourself in the US then please bring in for display! We are also collecting junk modelling as we will be designing an electrical circuit for a US landmark that we will be making.

Many thanks smiley

Please note that PE days have changed see below for details.

Key information:

  • PE lessons for King-Smith will happen on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Dahl will have their PE sessions on a Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. This will either be a outside or inside lesson.
  • Homework will be given out on a Friday and will be expected back in the following Wednesday. This will be a piece of Literacy and a piece of Maths homework (30 minutes on each please).
  • Spelling tests will take place on a Thursday morning (make sure you practise these during the week). New spellings will be in homework books on a Friday.
  • 99 Club will take place every Friday morning so keep practising those times tables. Great progress is being made!

Things to remember:

  • Your child needs to bring their PE kit in on a Monday and take it home to be washed on a Friday. Please ensure kits stay in school all week in case of a PE swap. If your child uses their kit for a club it must be back in school the next day. Thank you.
  • Your child needs to make sure they bring their reading book and record in everyday as this is checked daily. Please initial when you have heard your child read and/or when you have discussed the book with them - characters, setting, plot, prediction, facts, text layout, language choices, likes/dislikes, how would you change the story etc.
  • Your child needs to bring their homework book in on a Wednesday in order for it to be marked and then handed back on a Friday.

English and Maths wb.15.01.18

English

This week we will be moving on to look at fronted adverbials, implementing these in our writing towards the end of the week. We will continue with our text and write a diary entry as if we were Sean aboard the ship the Pelican.

Mathematics

This week will be moving on to look at division as sharing into equal parts, including division with remainders. We will be using lots of different methods to do this, such as using counters and place value grids.
